Anti Bullying Programs: How Does Your Child's School Rank?
There are scores of different anti-bully programs being run in schools throughout America and hundreds more competing for a share of the market. Which ones have the winning track record of proven results?
There certainly are lots to choose from. Some states pass laws mandating a comprehensive framework of special training for teachers and administrators that dovetails with student awareness programs, detailed reporting procedures, and 'solution' schedules that range from mediation to suspension.
Other schools outsource their anti-bully programs to 'experts'. Again, there's an incredible array of options. The ranks include psychiatrists and psychologists, PhD's, lawyers, martial artists, clergy members, former victims, activists for peace & love, and even extreme BMX stunt performers. There are individuals who'll do a one day assembly, and organizations that specialize in comprehensive, multi-year, district wide contracts.
How do all of these stack up against each other?
First, let's take a look at the public school system. The embarrassing reality is that American students rank far below their peers in other developed countries - in benchmark areas such as science and mathematics, US children are in the bottom third. Our nosedive to the bottom is accelerating, too. Government employed teachers seem unable to impart the basics. What possible hope is there that they can be trusted to successfully execute a complex, social design experiment?
Next, consider private schools. Along with a better reputation for academic achievement, there's an air of prestige, and a considerable tuition obligation. Such institutions are understandably reluctant to admit there's a bullying problem, as that would damage their perceived status. And if there' s no problem, there's no need to fix it.
Lastly, we can take a look at the independent gurus. For the most part, they're undoubtedly good men and women with noble intentions. And they're running businesses (it's a very lucrative market). Naturally, their curriculum are designed to appeal to committees, boards and administrators (who have the money) instead of the children (who have the problems). Marketing is the foremost concern- effectiveness runs a distant second.
As a result, the programs being installed have nothing to do with empirically effective methods, and everything to do with 'feeling good' and cashing in. Yes, free market capitalism is a wonderful thing, and making a profit on your products or services is a wonderful thing. When you're providing something of value.
Years of research and mountains of evidence demonstrate that school-based anti-bullying programs have one thing in common: a dismal and disappointing record. Continuing to promote them is unscrupulous.

Why don't people like being around me?
A few days ago at school, we just got done with a bunch of testing. Then, when I went to science class, the teacher wanted to let us take a break and walk around outside. I was looking forward to walking with my best friend, and all of a sudden, her friends pushed me and I ended up walking the whole 30 minutes by myself because no one wanted to walk with me or be around me. I am very upset now because tomorrow is twin day at school, and my best friend said she was going to participate in it. I thought it would be cool to be her twin and we would wear the same clothes, and the same hair style. If I go with her as my twin no one would make fun of me for the way I dress. Apparently, she is going with her "sister". Technically, her "sister" is her other "best friend". Even people who have real twins are going with their friends. Now, I am going to be left out, once again! I cant't stop crying now. I can't sit at lunch with my best friend because she wants to sit with he "sister" and her "family". Oh yeah, I have other friends but they are boys, so I cant go to twin day wearing boy clothes. People just don't like me, they only use me to be their "best friend" when their other friends aren't around. I don't know what to do now! This has be happening for 3-4 years! I thought "twin day" was apart of anti-bullying...but no! Its to make people like me feel left out!
Im not ugly.

Poll: How hypocritical is THIS?
When someone always talks about how much they're against bullying & that it should be illegal, etc...when THEY'RE the ones insulting you 24/7, like trying to steal your boyfriend/girlfriend from you, labeling you for no good reason, judging your lifestyle, & being just pure mean when you're coming up just to greet them.?
I had a friend like that...NEVER, EVER going back!!!!! :/

Why are people so intolerant of everything these days?
It's becoming so trendy these days for people to reject reality, substitute their own, get a bunch of people to agree with them, and then destroy those who don't.
I'm talking about:
anti-government, pro-life, pro-surveillance, feminists, anti-bullies, anti-trolls, anti-anything-that's-not-covered-in -sugar-with-a-cherry-on-top
I'm not asking for people to be nice (that would be anti-troll). I'm asking for people to get real. Why don't people try and understand each other in the first place? You know, like figure out why bad things are done and then try to work with that instead of just treating "wrongdoers" as subhuman.
In other words, stop trying to "turn the tables" and be a human being.
... also realizing that "bad" is very subjective and that the only way we're going to work as a globalized world is to understand that.

Creative name for an anti bullying campaign?
I have decided to create an anti bullying campaign in my community to help stop bullying among individuals (from little kids to college kids) and the campaign will be primarily based off preteens and teens, but we will be helping kids of all ages. I thought off using the name TeensUnite, but I didn't know if that would be a good name since it's not only teens involved in this campaign.
Can you please help me think of a good anti bullying campaign name that is simple and catchy and appropriate?
Please and thank you!

Do you think I have a chance of being accepted to Princeton?
I am a sophomore in high school and Princeton is my dream. I have a 3.5 cumulative GPA with 3 honors and 1 AP class over the past two years. I have yet to take the ACT or AP test. I want to be recruited for softball there, so I think that might increase my chances. I am involved in Anti-Bullying Club, Spirit Club, STAC (work with special ed kids), and key club. I work at Panera and Applebee's. I play club softball and softball for my high school. I have five awards, two academic and three athletic. What do you think are my odds? What can I do to increase them? Thank you! :)

Refusing To Go To Class?
In my previous question I said how I had a bad day (Link right below)
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AumsDMCiEWkZ2XHxg0ugjW7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20130429222438AAqot5t
And I want to know is how should I protest and refuse to go to class. Should I stay in the library for the remainder of the day or stay in the counselors office. Because no matter what anybody says, even if the people get reported or in trouble, I will not go back to class. I'll probably get ISS (in school suspension) but I'm fine being alone.
Help if you can and please read the first question first. It's kinda long sorry.
Thanks

if iran gets a nuke will they really use it?
if iran is trying to build nukes and thats if. will they really launch it at another country? i understand that there is radical islam in Iran, however they (unlike north korea) are not stupid, they know full well that if they launch at anyone they will have about another twenty minutes to exist as a nation until they are particles of dust. a large percentage of the population is under 35, surely the age of liberalism is coming, the spread of eduction and a larger secular culture in the country. would they be able to launch long range, i know they have long range missiles, but not many and none that a large nuke could be strapped onto. they would have to go through a long process of technical production before they were capable of full long range, reliable, launch capabilities. if they get a nuke then as soon as they let the world know israel and the usa, possibly all nato nations would bomb the hell out of that country. (this includes turkey). if they had a nuke would they use it as an "anti bullying device" to the us and israel or would they really use it. who would they use it on? I imagine israel because its geographically close and a small, small nation. if they were capable would they launch at the us or uk? i ask because i live in the uk, 122 miles away from London and suffer from crippling anxiety and depression. this topic is giving me cronic nightmares and stops me from living my life fully, should i realy be worried? also if anybody knows, is there a way the uk could block a ballistic missile attack from iran? i heard theres a load of us anti ballistic missile systems in poland that will intercept anything that comes from iran. wuld israels done system protect us as well. do we or the french/other european countries have any way to block/stop missiles? would my life be ruined if one nuke i presume not the biggest ever made because a lack of technology and expense hit London. surely government anti radiation "bombs"would help and i know for a fact that radiation from the largest nuke ever only goes 35 miles.
thank you for your time
